Accept political ads on your newsletter
Political ads are off by default. Turn them on for any verified sponsor or only those you approve, and run your own direct-sold ones.
Updated 2026-11-02
Election and issue ads don't run on your newsletter unless you turn them on. Every one comes from a sponsor verified by MailAdx, unless you sold it yourself, and every one is labelled Political ad · Paid for by the sponsor's name.
Before you start
You need write access to your publisher account: Owner, Admin or Manager.
Steps
- Open Political Ads.
- Under Do you accept political ads?, choose one:
- Don't run political ads. This is the default.
- Run them from any verified sponsor.
- Only sponsors I approve. Nothing runs until you approve the sponsor.
- Under Which kinds, tick Election ad, Issue ad or both.
- Under Where your readers are, enter two-letter country codes, such as IN. Mail apps often hide a reader's location, so political ads are matched to these countries instead.
- Select Save.
Approve sponsors
If you chose Only sponsors I approve, a Verified sponsors list appears after you save. Each row shows the "Paid for by" name, legal name, type and verified countries.
- Select Approve or Block on each sponsor.
- Select Undo to clear a decision.
You'll get an alert when sponsors are waiting for your decision.
What happens next
- Advertisers see Accepts election ads or Accepts issue ads on your card in the Publisher Directory, with (by approval) if you approve sponsors first.
- Ads run only where the sponsor is verified, the line item targets the country, and MailAdx allows political ads there. MailAdx runs no political ads in the EU and EEA.
- Each ad links to its notice in the public library.
- To stop them, choose Don't run political ads and select Save.
Sell your own political ad
You can run a political ad as a direct-sold campaign, if your settings above allow that type.
- Create the order in Orders, and under Is this a political or issue ad? choose Election ad or Issue ad.
- Enter Which election, referendum or issue, the "Paid for by" name, the Sponsor's legal name, the Sponsor's address and, if you have one, the Sponsor's contact (public).
You attest who paid, because you sold the slot. The ad's notice says it was sold directly by your newsletter and shows the details you entered. MailAdx still reviews the creative before it goes live, and the same targeting rules apply: target countries, and use no audience segments, retargeting, journeys or cities.
If something goes wrong
- "Pick election ads, issue ads or both." Tick at least one under Which kinds.
- "Say which countries your readers are in." Enter at least one country code.
- "Political ads aren't switched on yet." The feature isn't available on your network. Contact support@mailadx.com.
- A political ad isn't serving. Check that the type is ticked, the sponsor is approved if you approve sponsors, and the campaign's countries include the ones you listed for your readers.
