Audience data, consent and who can use it
What you confirm when you upload subscriber details, what is left out, and where those details can be used.
Updated 2026-11-02
You can upload subscriber details so advertisers can target your audience. You do this on Inventory Details under Targetable audience, or on Account under Audience Demographics (optional). This article covers the rule that comes with it.
The consent rule
Only upload subscribers who have agreed to their details being used for ad targeting.
Each upload asks you to tick I confirm these subscribers have agreed to their details being used for ad targeting. The upload button stays off until you do. MailAdx records who confirmed it and when.
Getting that agreement is your job. MailAdx doesn't verify your list or the details in it. The Privacy Policy tells readers how these details are used, and they can opt out at Ad Choices.
What happens to email addresses
You can upload plain addresses. Each is converted to a hash the moment it reaches MailAdx and is never stored.
Where your details can be used
Other publishers can't see your file.
| Detail | Where it can be used |
|---|---|
| Gender, age, income | Wherever that subscriber is reached, not only on your newsletter |
| Your interest tags | Your own newsletters only |
| Country and state | Your own newsletters only |
If another publisher has already supplied a subscriber's details, yours don't overwrite them. The upload summary lists these as Not updated — another publisher already supplied their details.
What is left out
- Anyone under 18. An age under 18 is ignored.
- Sensitive tags. Tags can't describe health, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, politics, finances or minors. They are dropped, and the summary tells you how many.
The word check is a safety net, not a guarantee. Don't upload tags like these at all.
