Ad Choices and reader opt-outs
How a newsletter reader opts out of MailAdx ads, what changes for them, and what it means for publishers and advertisers.
Updated 2026-11-02
Any reader can opt out of ads served by MailAdx at Ad Choices. The opt-out covers every newsletter that uses MailAdx, and it doesn't unsubscribe the reader from any newsletter.
How a reader opts out
- Open Ad Choices.
- Enter an email address and choose a reason.
- Select the button to remove the address from MailAdx ads.
No sign-in is needed. Point any reader who asks to this page.
What happens next
- The address is hashed straight away, and the hash goes on a suppression list. The plain address isn't stored.
- From the reader's next open, the slot stays empty instead of showing an ad. This applies to banner, native and interactive slots.
- No impression is recorded for billing.
- Any location kept against that reader is deleted.
- The opt-out has no end date. A reader who wants to reverse it can contact support@mailadx.com.
For publishers
What this means for you
- The reader keeps getting your newsletter. Your own subscription list isn't affected, and you still handle unsubscribes.
- The slot is blank for that reader and earns nothing.
- Say in your privacy notice that your newsletter may carry ads and that readers can opt out, and link to Ad Choices where it fits.
- Your ad tag must carry the reader's hashed email in the
ehfield. Without a valid value, the slot serves no ad. See email hash.
For advertisers and agencies
What this means for you
Readers who opt out don't see your ads, and you aren't charged for them. You must also honour any consent and opt-out signals that MailAdx passes to you, and must not try to re-identify a hashed reader.
If something goes wrong
- A reader still sees an ad after opting out. Check they used the address the newsletter is sent to. A different address has a different hash.
- A reader asks you for their data, or to delete it. See your data and privacy.
