Place the conversion tag
Add two lines to your site so sign-ups from a Leads line item are counted, and see what counts as a conversion.
Updated 2026-11-02
The conversion tag counts a reader who clicked your ad and went on to sign up on your site.
It works on line items with the objective Leads (conversion) or the CPL bid type. Clicks on these line items add mxcv=… to your landing URL. Landing URLs on other line items are left exactly as you entered them.
Before you start
- You can add a script to your website.
- Your landing page and thank-you page are on the same site. The tag keeps its value in that site's browser storage, so it can't follow a reader to another domain.
Steps
- Open Line Items and edit the line item. Set Objective to Leads (conversion). The Conversion tracking box appears with both tags to copy.
- Add this tag to every page, or at least the landing page:
<script src="https://www.mailadx.com/api/v1/track/cv.js" async></script>
- On your confirmation or thank-you page, use this tag instead of the first one:
<script src="https://www.mailadx.com/api/v1/track/cv.js?convert=1" async></script>
On a single-page app there is no new page to load. Call the tag's convert function after a successful sign-up. The exact line is in the Conversion tracking box.
What counts
- The reader clicked an ad from this line item, then reached your confirmation page within 30 days.
- Each click counts at most one conversion. Reloading the thank-you page adds nothing.
- Visitors who didn't come from an ad are never tracked. The tag does nothing for them.
A form sent inside an interactive ad is a lead, not a conversion.
The tag uses first-party storage on your site only, with no third-party cookie.
What happens next
Conversions appear in Reports, in the Conversions and CVR columns. A conversion is a measurement. It adds nothing to your bill.
If something goes wrong
- No
mxcv=on your landing URL. Check the line item's objective, and that you clicked a real ad from it. mxcv=is there, but no conversions. Check that the first tag is on the landing page and the second is on the thank-you page, on the same site.- Your site removes query strings. A redirect that drops
mxcv=before the page loads stops the tag from seeing it.
