Run an interactive ad on a line item

Set a line item to Interactive, attach your approved creative and choose where it shows.

Updated 2026-11-02

An interactive creative runs only on a line item set to the Interactive format.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Open Line Items and select New Line Item.
  2. Under Ad Format, select Interactive. The bid type changes to CPM.
  3. Choose your creative. With this format set, the list shows interactive creatives only.
  4. Under Where it shows, choose one:
    • Interactive in Gmail, Yahoo and AOL — static fallback everywhere else. The most reach. Apple Mail and Outlook readers see the static version.
    • Interactive only. Only readers whose mailbox shows the interactive version.
  5. Set the rest of the line item as usual, then select Create Line Item.

What happens next

The ad competes for interactive slots in newsletters. It serves only in slots that accept its format and are tall enough for its first screen. It stops serving at the creative's end time, when unique codes run out, or when every RSVP time has passed or is full.

Results appear in Interactive Reports.

If something goes wrong

  • "An interactive creative runs on an Interactive line item". Set Ad Format to Interactive.
  • "An Interactive line item needs an interactive creative". Pick an interactive creative, or change the format.
  • "Interactive line items are bought per thousand impressions (CPM)". CPC and CPL aren't available for this format.
  • "Political and issue ads can't run as Interactive Ads". Use another format for a political campaign.
  • Few or no impressions. Readers need a slot that fits. A shorter ad runs in more slots, and Interactive only reaches fewer readers.
