Start a deal

Pick the other side, set the type, inventory, price and dates, then send the offer or save it as a draft.

Updated 2026-11-02

Use this when you want to agree a price and inventory directly with one publisher or one buyer.

Before you start

  • Your account must be approved before you can send an offer. You can save drafts before that.
  • You need the Owner, Admin or Manager permission on your team.
  • The publisher's inventory must be verified. See verified inventory.
  • The publisher needs at least one ad unit that isn't paused.

For publishers

You'll need the email address on the advertiser's MailAdx account. Advertisers you've dealt with before are already listed.

For agencies

You can start a deal only for a client that's in your agency account.

Steps

For advertisers and agencies

Open Publisher Directory, find the publisher and select Propose a deal. Or open Deals and select New deal.

For publishers

Open Deals and select New deal.

Then fill in the form:

  1. Choose the Deal type.
  2. Give the deal a Name. Both sides see it.
  3. Choose the other side. An advertiser picks the Publisher. An agency picks the client under For advertiser, then the Publisher, because the list of publishers depends on the client. A publisher enters the email under Advertiser, selects Find, and chooses the advertiser from the list.
  4. Under Inventory, choose Specific ad units, or all of the publisher's banner or native ad units, now and later.
  5. Enter the Deal price (CPM, USD), or the Floor price (CPM, USD) for a private auction.
  6. For Programmatic Guaranteed, enter Impressions (guaranteed) and choose the Pacing: Even across the flight or As fast as possible.
  7. Set the Start date and End date.
  8. Open Targeting and limits (optional) if you want to narrow the deal by country, device or frequency, or leave Notes for the other side.
  9. Add a Message if you want to.
  10. Select Save draft to finish later, or the send button: Send to publisher or Send to advertiser.

Limits on a deal

Term Limit
Name Up to 120 characters
Price or floor $0.10 to $1,000 CPM
Impressions (Programmatic Guaranteed) 1,000 to 1,000,000,000
Length Up to 366 days
Specific ad units Up to 50, all banner or all native
Countries Up to 50, as two-letter codes
Frequency cap 1 to 100 impressions per 1 to 720 hours. Fill in both
Notes Up to 2,000 characters

What happens next

The other side gets an email and has 14 days to accept, counter or decline. You'll find the deal under In negotiation. From a draft, you can use Edit, Delete or Send on the deal's page.

Next, read answer a deal offer.

If something goes wrong

  • "Your account is pending admin approval." Save a draft and send it once your account is approved.
  • "Deals run only on verified inventory." The publisher must publish its ads.txt line. The message gives the exact line. See verified inventory.
  • "No active advertiser account uses that email." Ask the advertiser for the email on their account.
  • "The advertiser's account is not active yet (awaiting approval or paused)." The advertiser's account must be approved and active before you can send.
  • "The publisher blocks ads from" a domain. The publisher blocks the advertiser's domain, and would have to unblock it first.
  • "A deal is either banner or native." Split banner and native ad units into two deals.
  • "The publisher has no active banner ad unit for this deal." Pick the other format, or ask the publisher to add or resume an ad unit.
  • "The start date has passed." Choose today or a later date.
  • "Test and live accounts cannot deal with each other." A test account can only deal with another test account.
  • An error appears after you press send. The deal may already be saved. Look under Drafts before you try again, so you don't create a second one.
