Upload subscriber details

Upload what you know about your subscribers and advertisers can aim campaigns at them. Without it, campaigns still run, but they can't be aimed at gender, age or income. See where your details can be used.

Before you start

• You need the Owner, Admin or Manager permission.
• Only include subscribers who have agreed to their details being used for ad targeting.
• Your file must be a CSV with a header row, up to 40 MB and 500,000 rows. An export from your email platform works. Columns are matched by name and others are ignored.

Steps

1. Open Inventory Details and find Targetable audience.
2. Select Download CSV template if you want a starting file.
3. Fill in the columns below.
4. Choose your file.
5. Tick I confirm these subscribers have agreed to their details being used for ad targeting.
6. Select Upload audience data.

Columns

• email is required. Use the address, or its SHA-256 hash in a column named emailHash. Plain addresses are converted to a hash when they reach MailAdx and aren't stored.
• gender: M, F, NB or UNKNOWN. Male and Female also work.
• ageBracket: 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 or 65+. You can give the age in years in a column named age. Under 18 is ignored.
• incomeGroup: LOW, MEDIUM, MEDIUM_HIGH or HIGH.
• tags: your own interest tags, separated by colons or semicolons, such as travel:music.
• country: where the subscriber is, such as US or United States.
• state: a US state by name or code, or the ISO code for other countries. It needs a country unless it is a full code like US-CA.

What happens next

Large files are processed in the background. You can leave the page, and the account owners and admins get an email with the result. When it finishes you see how many subscribers were added, updated or skipped, and why.

The Targetable audience card then shows your exact counts. Advertisers see your figures once enough subscribers have details, and the card says how many are needed. Other publishers can't see your data. Upload again at any time to update it.

If something goes wrong

• "Skipped — no valid email address or hash". Fix the email in those rows.
• "Skipped — no gender, age, income, tags or location". The row has nothing to use.
• "Not updated — another publisher already supplied their details". That subscriber's details came from another publisher first.
• Tags were left out. Tags can't describe health, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, politics, finances or minors.
• Locations couldn't be read. Use a country name or code, and a state code.
