Create an order
Start a campaign, choose who it is for, and set the block list that applies to every line item in it.
Updated 2026-11-02
An order is the campaign that your line items sit inside. You need one before you can create a line item.
Steps
- Open Orders and select New Order.
- Leave the tab on Network Demand (DSP). Publisher Direct-Sold is for a publisher's own campaigns, and an advertiser or agency account can't save it.
- Enter an Order Name.
- Choose the Advertiser.
- Add a Start Date, End Date and Total Budget ($) if you want them on record. They're optional, and they don't control delivery. See the note below.
- Leave Status on Draft while you build.
- Under Is this a political or issue ad?, choose an answer. Election ad and Issue ad bring their own rules, shown on the form.
- Open Brand Safety — Publisher Block List if you want to rule out newsletters.
- Select Create Order.
An order's dates and Total Budget ($) are for your records. They don't start, stop or limit delivery. To control delivery, set dates, an Impression Goal and a Daily Budget ($) on each line item. See Set budgets, pacing and flight dates.
Order status
| Status | What it does |
|---|---|
| Draft | Nothing serves. Use this while you build. |
| Pending | Nothing serves. It's a label for your own use, not a review queue. |
| Active | Line items in this order can serve. |
| Paused | Nothing serves. Line items keep their own status. |
Block newsletters from this campaign
The block list applies to every line item in the order.
- Block Publisher IAB Categories rules out newsletters that declare these content categories. Blocking a main category also blocks the categories under it.
- Block Publisher Domains rules out newsletters on these domains, including their subdomains.
- Block Publishers rules out named newsletters, up to 200. This wins over anything a line item targets.
If a line item already targets a newsletter, remove it from the line item before you block it.
What happens next
The order appears in your list. Create a line item inside it, then set the order to Active when you're ready to launch.
You can't change who owns an order after you create it.
For agencies
The Advertiser list shows your clients. It starts on your first client, even if the client selector in the top bar is set to another, so check it before you save.
For publishers
Your new order is always direct-sold for your own newsletter, so there is no tab to choose. Add the Sponsor you sold the slot to. It appears on the report you share with them. Sponsor contact is for your reference and never appears on that report. Block lists and Publishers targeting don't apply to direct-sold campaigns.
If something goes wrong
- "Say whether this campaign is a political or issue ad." Choose one of the three answers.
- "Remove these publishers from the line items first". A line item in this order targets a newsletter you're trying to block.
- "A campaign can block at most 200 publishers". Remove some, or block a category or domain instead.
- "Your account is pending admin approval". You can keep building, but only an approved account can make an order Active.
- The advertiser list says "Add an advertiser first". Agencies add clients on the Advertisers page. See Add and manage your client advertisers.
