What MailAdx is and how the sides fit
An ad exchange for email newsletters. Who does what, and how an ad gets from a campaign to a subscriber who opens the email.
Updated 2026-11-02
MailAdx is an ad exchange for email newsletters. Newsletters sell ad slots, advertisers buy them, and the ad is chosen when a subscriber opens the email, not when it is sent.
Who does what
- Publishers run newsletters. They add ad slots, called ad units, to their email template and earn from the ads that show there.
- Advertisers pay for ads. They add credits to a wallet, build campaigns and upload the ads themselves, called creatives.
- Agencies run campaigns for several client advertisers from one login. Each client keeps its own wallet. The agency holds no balance.
- Sponsors are brands that bought a placement directly from a publisher. They don't run anything. They get a report on the campaigns the publisher shares with them.
MailAdx sits between them: it holds the accounts, reviews creatives, picks the ad and reports what happened.
Some accounts are billed by their ad network instead of a prepaid wallet. If Wallet is not in your menu, your ad network handles your billing.
How an ad reaches a subscriber
- The publisher pastes an ad tag into the newsletter template.
- A subscriber opens the email and their mail app asks for the ad image.
- MailAdx picks an ad at that moment, from the campaigns allowed to run in that slot.
- The ad shows and the impression is counted. A click goes through a tracking link to the advertiser's page.
An impression is counted when a subscriber opens the email and the ad image is delivered, never for an email that was sent but not opened.
Where to start
For publishers
Ads in your slots can come from MailAdx advertisers, from sponsors you sell to yourself, and from outside buyers you allow. Your first job is to create an ad unit and put its tag in your template. Getting started has the steps.
For advertisers
You add credits, create an order, add line items that say what to buy and when, and upload a creative for review. Getting started has the steps.
For agencies
You add each client as an advertiser, then work as an advertiser would on their behalf. Credits go on the client, not on the agency.
For sponsors
You have one page: your report. See Your sponsor report.
One login, several accounts
A publisher, an advertiser and an agency are separate accounts, each with its own settings and numbers. One login can hold several of them, and you can switch between them without signing in again. See Switch accounts or add another one.
