No ads are showing
Work out why a newsletter slot is empty, from the tag to your account, your settings and your campaigns.
Updated 2026-11-02
An empty slot means either that the tag didn't work or that no campaign was eligible for that open. Tag Health tells you which. An empty slot collapses, so your layout isn't affected, and MailAdx doesn't guarantee an ad for every open.
Steps
- Open Tag Health and choose 7 days.
- Read the headline, then go to the matching section below.
"No ad requests in this period"
Nothing reached MailAdx.
- Check that the tag is in the template you actually sent. See Place the ad tag.
- Check that you sent an email in that period, and that images loaded when you opened it.
"Only previews so far"
Editor previews and web copies never show ads. Send a test to yourself and open it in your mail app.
A share of requests can't show an ad because of the tag
Tag Health names the cause and the fix. Most of the time it is the subscriber's email hash. See Merge tags for your mailing platform.
"Some requests are for a paused ad unit"
Open Ad Units and resume the slot.
"Your ad tags are set up correctly"
The tag works, and requests without an ad are about demand. Check these:
- Your account. It must be approved. Otherwise Tag Health shows Unknown or inactive publisher.
- Verified inventory. Open Authorized Sellers and read What your inventory can earn. Without your ads.txt line, only your own campaigns may run. See Publish your ads.txt line.
- Network campaigns. Check they are on under Demand settings. See Choose who can buy your slots.
- Your floor. A high Floor CPM leaves out cheaper campaigns. See Set a floor price.
- Your sizes. A slot accepting few sizes fits fewer ads. See Create an ad unit.
- Your block lists. Blocks reduce what can fill a slot. See Block ad categories and brands.
To see whether any campaign is eligible right now, open Ad Tags, then Live Test — Run a Decision, and select Run Test Decision.
Your own campaign doesn't show
Check each item:
- The order and the line item are Active.
- The creative is approved.
- Today is inside the line item's dates.
- The line item's Ad Format matches your slot, and an image creative's size is one the slot accepts.
- A CPM-priced line item meets the slot's floor.
- If you have a Wallet, its balance is above $0, or you have free impressions. See low and empty wallets.
See Run a campaign you sold yourself.
What happens next
Some empty requests are normal, even when everything is set up well. For example, a reader who opted out through AdChoices gets no ad.
If something goes wrong
- Everything above looks right. Write to support@mailadx.com with your Publisher ID, the ad unit's placement key and the date of your send.
